Product Description Most professional chefs have a thermometer tucked in a jacket pocket, and if it works for them, perhaps you should try it too!
Amazon.com Review For professional accuracy, nothing beats this digital thermometer for instantly ascertaining the temperature of foods, whether they're frozen, on the buffet line, or being cooked. Its 1/3-inch LCD face, protected by a rugged polycarbonate cover, displays temperatures from minus 58degrees to 302 degrees F, and updates every second. An on/off switch prolongs the life of the 1.5-volt watch battery that powers the thermometer. (Two batteries are included.) The thermometer comes with a pocket case and has a 4-5/8-inch stainless-steel stem tipped with a temperature sensor, so the thermometer reads temperatures near a food's surface or deep inside. --Fred Brack

Alan February 20, 2010 Alan (United States) I ordered two thermometers. One quit working after only one week of use. The other one did a little better and lasted about 4 months before it quit working. These thermometers are very poorly built and will not last if you carry it in your pocket all day. They might do OK if they were kept in a drawer and only used once in a while.
Thermometer Broke After 3 Uses January 30, 2010 Meg This thermometer was useless. It worked 3 times and then quit. I tried replacing the battery, but the original battery was completely corroded and the new one only worked for about 5 minutes before the whole thing quit.
Dissapointed January 23, 2010 Jim D (Pearl River, NY) We hardly ever used this thermometer (maybe twice a year), and one day it stopped reading. Naturally we figured it just needed a new battery. That didn't solve the problem. It appears to be the switch, which judging from many other reviews here, can be problematic. I would hesitate to buy or recommend this Taylor 9840.
Not good enough to use - waste of money January 22, 2010 Mark S. It reacts way too slowly. You can't leave it in whatever you're measuring since it's not liquid proof or heat proof. So you stand there with the oven door open watching it slowwwly climb to the actual temperature.
The diameter of the probe is bigger than necessary, so it pokes a large hole in the food.
The switch is too delicate to last. Turn it on/off once and it's obvious.
I've never used it past the first two times I used it....shoulda returned it but I waited too long.
reponse to battery replacement problems December 18, 2009 Dave from San Diego 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is about the Taylor "Connoisseur Digital Instant Read" thermometer...Model #508. Overall, this is a great product, but there have been problems reported about replacing the battery. I was able to contact Taylor directly (1-866-843-3905)and they talked me through how to change the battery. Amazing..when you know what you're doing it took me less than 5 minutes.
