Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The refillable, reusable coffee pad for the Senseo coffee machine. This is the new Brown unit (replaced the older and discontinued blue ecopad). The patented Brown Ecopad is environmentally-friendly and has many advantages, like: Your favorite brand coffee at a low price. Works with finely ground teas. Handy when you're out of paper pads. Long life and durable. Dishwasher safe.

3 out of 5 stars Great for the environment, saves money, but doesn't quite hold enough coffee   December 31, 2008

I had been doing the coffee filter method of making my own coffee pods using fine espresso grind beans from my burr grinder, and I was drinking some really great coffee! Unfortunately this does not hold quite enough coffee for me, so it tastes just a bit weak. I still get the crema, and they're easy to fill and rinse, I just wished they were just slightly larger.

I also think $10 for two little pods is pretty expensive. They should sell at least a 6 pack so I can fill for a few days at a time.

1 out of 5 stars A Complete Waste   December 20, 2008

If this is new and improved, I'd hate to see the original. This was a complete waste of money. The only reason I gave it one star was that there was no way to award "NO" star.

1 out of 5 stars Nice idea- poor application   December 16, 2008
Les Steinberg (St. Louis, MO)
I wanted this item to make good coffee. Unfortunately, I could not pack enough coffee into it to make a strong enough cup. If you like your coffee weaker, you might be okay with this. It is simple and it does work as advertised- it just has limitations. All coffee made with this pod replacement came out looking like beef bullion, not black coffee. I was able to return it however. No harm, no foul.

5 out of 5 stars Coffee filter   December 14, 2008

This filter is absolutely a must have for the Senseo coffee machine. Buying the coffee pods can get pretty expensive and I had purchased one of those gadgets that makes the pods (heat seal), which quit working in less than a month. This filter is MUCH easier to use and saves a lot of money. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Cheaper, Better, More Individualized and Delicious Coffee!   December 7, 2008

I love pod coffee. Really. Love. It.

But I really disliked buying the pods. I resented that they were a commercial product that I sort of "had" to buy in order to use my Senseo. I disliked that I was tied into a box of 18 at a time, and they were never all that fresh. There were no organic or fair-trade marketed ones that I could find. And ALL that packaging! To say nothing of the expense -- Sheesh!

Enter EcoPads, and the Coffee Duck!

Here is what I have found: Both the Eco Pods and the Coffee Duck will work to brew delicious coffee in a Senseo-type machine. The trick is getting super-dee-duper extra-fine-ground coffee, and then all is fine. However, the Coffee Duck does not give you nearly as much foam as either the purchased paper pods, or the Eco Pods, and it's a little sloppier to empty out when you're done.

The Eco Pods give you MORE foam, and only require about FOUR TEASPOONS of coffee, compared to TWO TABLESPOONS for regular joe in a drip pot (and yes, I measured). I found that I could get 42-50 cups of EcoPad coffee out of a finely ground can of Trader Joe's beans -- an average of about 15 cents per cup (if I bought a medium-grade brand).

The coffee is fresher and more delicious this way, because I grind the beans myself just hours before they are used. And the brew is a WHOLE lot cheaper -- about half the price of purchased paper pods -- so that the EcoPads have paid for themselves after about 25 uses.

Cheaper. Better. Yummier. There is nothing not to like!!!
