don't waste money March 23, 2010 ark76 (Virginia) You will learn everything the manual tells you by visiting message boards on the amazon kindle site. There is nothing in this book you need to know that you won't find in the manual or on the website.
Recipes which include Experimental Web Browsing won't work December 30, 2009 Kim (Lima, Perú) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Note that for some (maybe many) countries (outside the US), the recipes won't work. I live in Perú and Basic Web search (Menu - Experimental), is unavailable, so all recipes in the Cookbook which require access to web sites (for example using Kindle to send/receive mail), are useless. Kindle will give the following error : " Due to local restrictions web browsing is not available for all countries".
Some warning should be included, so non US readers, interested in the Kindle Coookbook, have complete info before pressing the BUY button.
good concise reference November 2, 2009 Douglas H. Haden (Ridgecrest, CA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Cookbook is a good collection of shortcuts, of Kindle resources around the web, and of `recipes', as Emberson calls them, for accomplishing tasks beyond just reading a book. I bought it to help me get PDF, .doc, text, and .jpg documents and pictures to my Kindle and for the keyboard shortcuts.
This book more that met my expectations in both the document conversion and shortcuts areas. Beyond that, it gave me many Kindle services, blogs, and forums I had not found in searching the web.
There seem to be two complaints common in Cookbook reviews. The first is Emberson favored PC users. I think the PC-oriented feel of the book comes from the presentation of Mac content more than for the particular content or lack thereof. PC applications are sometimes presented with a pointer to somewhere later in the book for the corresponding Mac material. The second complaint is everything in Cookbook is available online. Possibly true, but the $6.24 price I paid was worth it for the in-one-place convenience alone. I enjoy having Emberson's recipes readily available in my Kindle.
I would recommend investing in Cookbook if you are going to integrate Kindle into your everyday, computer-rich world. For the more casual user, I would recommend it for its keyboard shortcuts and pointers to other Kindle services and materials.
Simple. July 22, 2009 J. Ridpath (Wichita, KS) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Simple and effective guide to learning the in's and out's of ones Kindle. Highly recommend.
Not worth the price June 14, 2009 GaryK (Rochester, NY) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
There was only one thing useful that I found in this book, a link to Stanza Desktop, and one thing interesting, a link to a site to see how to take your Kindle apart. Other than that everything else can be found for free with an hour of googling.
Definitely not worth $4.99.
