Amazon.com Review
This knife block set carries a useful assortment of standard knives for outfitting a kitchen. The set includes an 8-inch chef's knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, a 4-inch paring knife, and a 2-1/2-inch peeling knife, as well as a sharpening steel and a pair of shears. All components fit within an 11-slot hardwood block, which offers four extra slots for future knife acquisitions.

Part of Henckels's Twin Signature of knives, the cutlery in this set have high-carbon, stainless-steel blades that have been stamped from one piece of metal. The edge is cut by laser for a more consistent angle on the blade and hand-honed for sharpness. Blades have also undergone Henckels's Friodur ice-hardening process, which further strengthens them and protects them from discoloration. The ergonomically designed traditional-style polymer handles are securely fastened to the balanced full tangs with three rivets. Handles seamlessly encase the tangs on these knives so no food particles can ever become trapped in a gap. Twin Signature knives are all dishwasher-safe (although Henckels recommends washing by hand) and are covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5 out of 5 stars Have withstood time and use---make cooking a pleasure   July 16, 2010
CheddarisBetter
In more recent years, I ended up cooking much more often, and I learned that it's important to have good knives---not just because they cut better but it prevents injury due to straining when using a poor quality knife.

I debated between Henckels and Wusthof, but went with these as they seem to be decent quality at a reasonable price. I hear Wusthof is supposed to be better, but it's with a price tag to match.

I have no idea what's up with the people that complained about these knives' "poor quality" and rusting to the point of having to throw them away, unless the manufacturer's quality varies that much, and often. I've had these for 3.5 years now and they are still trucking. Yes, of course, unless you make a point to wash them and dry them immediately they're going to get some rust/tarnish spots on them. It doesn't render them unusable, although obviously they're not as pretty as they used to be. Bending knives??? I've never seen any of them bend strangely, as I've seen others say. I guess if you are trying to use these to cut through BONES or something, I don't know how that happened. I've never seen these guys bend on anything---I use the big 8" knife cutting carrots, and it slices through them nearly like butter.

I do agree that the tips aren't as sharp, nor get as sharp, as I would like. Knowing that, for tougher items I try to cut nearer to the base. Like the carrots, or other tough veggies, I cut them on the blade area nearer the handle. Slides right through them.

You do need to sharpen them every now and then, but the steel quality is good enough that it keeps its edge for a while. I try to sharpen them about once a week, though, anyway, to keep them in good working order. Actually, the Wusthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener is a great pairing for this, as I have no idea how to use the sharpening steel included in this set. It works on scissors, also, if you need them to, although I've actually never sharpened my kitchen scissors once---but they still work just fine.

In short, these are a great starter set for most people cooking at home. Unless you're a pro chef and really know the difference, I think nearly anyone would be happy with these knives.

4 out of 5 stars J.A, Henckels Twin Signature 7 Piece Knife Set is "SHARP!   February 7, 2010
Mrs. Huggies (Blue Springs, Mo. USA)
Although we're had this set just a short time, we are quite pleased with the quality of the product. After making do with an old less than sharp knife set, this set is great.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Entry Level Set   December 5, 2009

I never had a "good set" of knives before. They are good quality and are every thing that I had expected Henckel knives to be. I was not disappointed.

2 out of 5 stars The knives rust   November 1, 2008

I like the knife set in general. However half the knives have rusted and I have to throw them away. I only recently bought this knife 3 months ago.

5 out of 5 stars Love the grip on these!   July 25, 2008
Kristin (San Diego, CA)
My first Henkels' purchase was a "one-man" and it was cheap in price and quality. It was so heavy, my mom couldn't use it. I returned that one right away, and found the Twin Signature.

I loved it right away! The handle is the best part because it fits very well for a good grip and it doesn't feel heavy. The knives are sharp and I use the scissors all the time for everything! Everyone that comes by my house comments on how they like the knives after using them. For a little more money, buy the "two-man" Henkel--it's worth it.
