Love this knife July 30, 2010 Shannon (Brooklyn, NY) What can I say, this is an amazing knife. So sharp, a great size, well balanced -- I use it every day. And that price!
Nice and sharp! June 28, 2010 climbon clibon (CO) Nice sharp knife. I haven't had it long enough to rate the durability, especially after sharpenings which I haven't had to do at all yet with much use-almost every day for several weeks.
Amazing price for an OXO product, I've never been disappointed with OXO.
This is a training knife May 12, 2010 David*Mendez (Chicago, Illinois United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Pros:
1.) It's very inexpensive
2.) It's well balanced
3.) It mimics the design of 'serious' knives
Cons:
1a.) It doesn't hold an edge very long
1b.) In fact, you'll wear the steel down quickly when you try to sharpen it.
2.) It's a little heavy for it's size
3.) It will break and you'll be SOL
This is a knife for a consumer. Someone who doesn't mind paying a small amount of money for something that will need replacing (at least half of it is recyclable). Oxo makes great gadgets but lousy knives. I bought one a year ago when I needed an all-purpose knife during a picnic. The price is what sold me, but I knew from experience with Oxo's other knives that this would fail. At the same time a friend accompanying me at the local Target bought one and I couldn't talk him out of it. Needless to say we are both the proud owners of a knife blade without a handle today.
I'm actually quite stunned that Oxo continues to make knives, but I guess they're making money with these.
My advice? Pay two to three times as much for a Wusthof and get quality. Examine how much you spend on coffee or a sandwich at your local lunch spot. For the same cost of several of those lunches you'll have a knife that will last you decades. Then bring lunch to work at least one week and you'll be even.
very sharp, nice weight knife April 13, 2010 Angelique Isdell (Orland Hills, IL) I'm really enjoying using this knife. The blade is ultra sharp (at least compared to my last chef's knife) and it feels great in your hand. The grip is nice, like all Oxo products and it seems like it won't stain like some of my other knives. My only issue is it was too big to fit in my wood knife block. My husband extended the hole however, so now I can say I love everything about this knife. Great for the price!
Best impulsive Amazon purchase of my life March 22, 2010 S. Lehmann (Washington, DC) I find I can chop a whole head of garlic in the same amount of time as it would take me to chop one clove before due to the knife's sharpness. I used to joke that if I were ever on Iron Chef I would spend the entire hour dicing one onion - apparently that was a function of having a poor, dull knife. It has a nice weightiness that seems to aid use while not tiring your arm.
As disclaimer I should probably add that I don't think I've ever used a sharp knife before this one so it's possible that any equally sharp knife would do the trick, but really this one is quite excellent.
