GREAT! July 16, 2010 Danette I ordered these for my new kitchen & was pleased with the overall look. They are not decorative, but very classy/sleek.
HIghly recommended! July 12, 2010 L'Octane I was impressed with the quality of these pieces. They were more solid and well made than I expected, for the price, and I am extremely happy with them!
Nice feel, poor performance July 15, 2009 Jennifer (Texas USA) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
We recieved Mercer place settings for 24 and 2 serving sets for our wedding. We selected the pattern because of its appearance and sturdy but lightweight feel. Much to our dismay, we have had to "baby" these pieces more than either of the past sets he or I owned. In addition to switching to only powder detergents for the dishwasher and elimination of anything extra in the detergent, we continue to get rust spots and "detergent burn" (as labled by Oneida upon returning individual pieces for replacement).
The first time I called Oneida, about 2 weeks after the wedding, customer service was great and shipped out two replacement pieces. One week later, I called again and they shipped another piece. Upon calling one month later with more than 20 distressed pieces, the had me ship the pieces (not cheap) to them and them they shipped replacements. Now, 4 months after the wedding, I did inventory again this morning and found 40+ pieces with problems.
I called again and this time inquired about why this was happening...the results were not what we had experienced in the past with his 10+ year old set and my 20+ year old set (both Oneida, different patterns). In the past, it seemed as if we could clean or use the pieces any way we desired without problems. We were overly pleased with our pasts sets as had been our firends and families with their sets. The person who took my call explained that sets of that age were all made in America and that all products were now made overseas. I was not comforted.
She offered to send a pick-up label for me to return all of our pieces for a piece-for-piece exchange of our current pattern for one of four other patterns. I then asked if they had a higher-end product that might be necessary for us to own to avoid our problems. She did say that they had a "lifetime" line but that she gets similar complaints.
I appreciate their attempts to "fix it" and hope that a pattern change is "the fix". We do not recommend "Merecer". Hopefully we can again recommend Oneida, though - we will see.
Oneida Mercer February 18, 2009 JAK (PA) I think the design of this set is great. When I first got it I put it in the dishwasher. I noticed after that there were a few places on the matt finish that seemed to have rubbed off a bit, most likely from hitting up against each in the dishwasher. I took the backside of one of the spoons and scratched it a bit with a fork prong and it affected the matt finish. I guess I will have to be careful with them and always remember to wash by hand.
Great flatware for the price October 17, 2008 David Heitman 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With this set, I discovered that, apparently, not all flatware is supposed to bend under slight pressure. Turns out it's supposed to be rigid. And these look very nice. They're not top of the line, as they are only 18/0 flatware (for those who don't know, numbers like 18/0 and 18/10 indicate the chromium/nickel content of the steel used. All other things being equal, a higher nickel content will make the flatware more resistant to pitting and corrosion, and give it a better weight and appearance), but they're still great. At this price, I highly recommend them.
