Pops the Tops March 14, 2010 SollyM The 76606 does separate the lid, from the can, without cutting into the lid. However, it's advisable to take the can, after operating the opener, over to the sink. I've found, that for most cans, the lid will tend to be tightly bound to the can. When this is the case, you have to squeeze the can, to release the lid. Depending on how hard you have to squeeze, will determine how much liquid will splash out. Doing this over the sink, will save clean-ups. Anyway, it still beats digging out a partially cut, sharp edged lid, from a blade type opener.
This can opener works! March 4, 2010 Gluten Free (Santa Cruz, CA, USA) My husband and I like this can opener because it doesn't leave any sharp edges on the lids, is easy to use, and doesn't have blades in the food to get dirty. My husband, who has Parkinson's, can use it but it is not as easy for him as we hoped it would be--but probably better than anything else. You don't need to hold onto the can while opening, but you do need to hold onto the can when you lift up the top lever to release the can...so you need to be able to use 2 hands at once.
Hamilton Beach 76606 February 21, 2010 JMM (AZ) I can't believe I could be so enthusiastic about a can opener! This one is awesome! No more sharp edges, opens the can on the first try, easy to use, attractive! I read in some reviews that you couldn't tell easily when the can opener was done -- not true. It's easy to hear the difference, plus you can even see by looking at the little tracking marks it leaves on the top of the can. I give this product a solid A!
Can Opener makes lid for the can February 20, 2010 W. Roberts (Va Beach, VA) This opener cuts the top of the can and makes it into a lid for the can! When making clam chowder you can cut the lid off, empty the can and pour in milk. Replace the lid, hold it on tight and shake the can. Then pour out all the chowder you would have left behind with no messy scraping. The lid also works great for storing fruit right in the can in the fridge.
Buy This One! February 14, 2010 K. Johnson A great product! This electric can opener, with its side blade, smoothly opens cans with absolutely no sharp, jagged edge and no chance for the blade to get all gunked up with sticky food plus it looks very nice sitting on our counter. Please note: for safety, the cord is short so the unit needs to be sitting right next to an outlet. Would definitely recommend this product.
