Glad I read reviews and bought this item. Have had several slicers of this style and have never been happy. This unit works great and has a great price!!! Try one and you'll throw that other cheap junk away. Be carefull, really sharp!!!
A great mandoline slicer at a great price March 16, 2010

I had a Cuisinart mandoline that cost four times what this Progressive mandoline cost and the Cuisinart was a piece of junk. I got so frustrated with it that I threw the whole thing away. I just received this mandoline last week and cut potatoes for french fries, something the Cuisinart could not seem to do. Cutting the potatoes was a breeze! None of the potato got jammed, the pieces were all uniform and I didn't have to struggle trying to push the potato across the slicer. The only thing that I sort of didn't like is the guard as it didn't seem that the prongs were long enough to actually hold the potato. But that is a small complaint when I finally own a mandoline that actually works!

This mandoline slicer is AWESOME. It slices quickly and easily ... LOVE it!!!
If you dehydrate foods such as yams, butternut squash, etc., this baby makes the prep too easy. Or large quantities for a party ... this would be such a help in the kitchen.
Like many of you, I have been burned on kitchen gadgets, so I was leery when I received it. But, man, was I pleasantly surprised. It's dishwasher safe on the top rack. Easy breezy!!!!

I absolutely love this slicer - I made the best gratin I have ever had! Potatoes were all perfectly symmetrical. The blade on this was unbelievably sharp - I know there are multiple cautionary reviews, but even they were not enough to protect my right thumb. Even with the kitchen wound, I love love love this slicer.

This thing is great! Very sharp as others have stated - I was able to cut a very large and thick potato for fries without having to pre-cook at all. The handle thing is only useful for certain shapes of foods (or if you pre-cut in chunks to get that shape), so defintely be careful of fingers! The storage box is a WONDERFUL bonus for an item that comes with additional parts. I'd definitely recommend this - a great deal!
