I enjoy making homemade fries for the family, and was looking for an easy-to-use slicer at a decent price. I found one. This slicer does the job well. I actually love using this thing. It also has worked great for slicing veggies to throw on the grill. My wife jokes about my love affair with this slicer. I can hardly imagine life in the kitchen without it. If you need a simple, inexpensive slicer, then look no further.

I just got this today and sliced up some veggies to try it out. While I do like that there are four different slicing thicknesses, it didn't seem like there was much difference between them. Obviously the thick slices and the super thin slices were different, but I guess I thought the thick would be thicker and the super thin would be, well, super thin. It's more just...thin. I was thinking I would be able to slice potatoes thin enough to make crusty coatings on meat or dishes, but it's more like a thin gratin slice.
Also, I found the thin julienne to be hard to operate. The julienne blades don't seem that sharp so you have to exert a lot of force to get the item to pass through it. A couple times the food flew off the hand guard and I almost shaved my palm off.
The other thing I wasn't expecting was that the inside of the hand guard moves up and down. When you put the food in, it pushes a plastic piece up which reveals more of the prongs inside. I found that unless you have the perfect pressure on the food to slide it back down the prongs, you get uneven or lopsided slices. I'm thinking if you had a slice-proof glove you may be able to get more conistency doing it manually.
But, just slicing, it seems to work pretty well. I can't comment on longstanding durability but so far it looks like, for the money, it will do a sufficient job.

I bought this because of the julienne feature and was VERY DISAPPOINTED! The inserted has metal outcroppings that are not even sharpened. The idea is for you to scrap the food across the non-sharpened metal outcroppings then the food passes the regular slicer and you are supposed to get near perfect julienne cuts. WRONG The metal tines it passes over are deeper then even the thickest slices so unless you can line up and repeat the same exact pass over the tines you will get extremely uneven cuts. I have rated it 2 stars because much of the advertising focused on its ability to julienne and it has not lived up to the claims. It does SLICE nicely, the blades have stayed sharp and except for the julienne feature the mandolin works well. If you are considering this product for the same reason I was, please consider another model and save yourself the frustration.
