Amazon.com Review Yogurt is a great, guilt-free snack for both adults and kids. With this yogurt maker, it's easy to add favorite flavors--including exotic and sweet fruits, rich crunchy nuts, and natural sweeteners--to basic yogurt. Just follow the recipes, supplied by the manufacturer, and a nutritious snack, with very little fat and no preservatives (like most commercial brands), is not too far away. Making yogurt takes from 4 to 10 hours to process, depending on desired tartness of the batch. If you're looking for frozen yogurt, you do have to chill it for 2 hours in the freezer before consumption after it's made. The yogurt can be stored up to one week. --Teresa Simanton

How I do it with never a bad batch. March 18, 2010 Kenneth R. James (University Place, WA United States) 1) What's with the price? They are around $30 or $40. 2) I read most of the reviews and have followed their advice. Never a bad batch. 3) Starter? Buying store yogurt defeats the purpose for me so I use " Acidophilus Probiotic Complex" tablets from GNC. Much cheaper too. I powder them with a cheap pill thing from the drug store. 3) I sterilize my Espresso thermometer, a spoon and the interior plastic container with boiling water. 4) A large Pyrex measuring cup works great when heating the non-fat milk in the microwave. Easy to just rinse it off. 5) Up to 180 - down to 110-115 in an ice bath. 6) Gentle blending and then into the pre-heated Salton, which sits in a quiet corner of the counter, for 5 hrs or so. I forgot one night, but it was OK in the morning. 7) Cooled in the refrig, being careful not to shake it until it cools enough. That includes closing the refrig door carefully. 8) I also add 1/2 c or more of powdered milk to the hot milk as the normal consistency is too runny for me. 9) I sweeten with Splenda and add red grapes or fresh strawberries. 10) Have made cheese using cheesecloth. Was great. 11) Used a large mouth canning jar (glass) once. Worked OK. 12) I never cut corners. Many, many thanks to all the reviewers whose tips I have used so successfully.

Good recipe - product not needed January 28, 2010 Alan Bower 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been making yogurt in my rice cooker for a couple of years...yes, my rice cooker. My quest for the perfect yogurt recipe ended here. I provided a product identical to Greek yogurt. The recipe is outstanding and delivers a thick rich premium product that can be used in many cooking applications including Indian curries, baking, breads, dressings and other recipes requiring milk or other soft or liquid dairy forms excepting cheese. Adding sugar, honey or a sugar substitute will create an Asian style yogurt similar to Vietnamese yogurt which is used as a dessert with fruit or berries. Condensed (sweetened) milk Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk, 8 Can of 12 Oz (354 Ml) can be substituted for the 12 ounces of evaporated milkNestle Carnation Evaporated Milk, 8 Can of 12 Oz (354 Ml).
I have not tried goats milk Meyenberg Evaporated Goat Milk, 12-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)as a substitute for the evaporated milk or soy milk but I see no reason why the results would not be similar or equal.

great product November 23, 2009 S. Vasantlal (NJ,USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We eat a lot of yogurt and this yogurt maker is great. It makes really creamy and yummy yogurt. You just need a good starter. And you dont even need to add the milk powder if using for smoothes or eating it plain. In summer it makes yogurt in 2 hrs and in winter about 4 hrs. I dont use the plastic container that comes with the yogurt maker but a glass mason jar to make yogurt. I would definitely recommend this product.
