Amazon.com Review
Yogurt is a great, guilt-free snack for both adults and kids. With this yogurt maker, it's easy to add favorite flavors--including exotic and sweet fruits, rich crunchy nuts, and natural sweeteners--to basic yogurt. Just follow the recipes, supplied by the manufacturer, and a nutritious snack, with very little fat and no preservatives (like most commercial brands), is not too far away. Making yogurt takes from 4 to 10 hours to process, depending on desired tartness of the batch. If you're looking for frozen yogurt, you do have to chill it for 2 hours in the freezer before consumption after it's made. The yogurt can be stored up to one week. --Teresa Simanton

5 out of 5 stars $200 are you out of your #^$&ing minds?!?!?   September 1, 2010

No doubt about it, this is a great yogurt maker. I purchased this six years ago and have used it to make hundreds of perfect batches of yogurt, every time. I especially like the fact that you can use a one quart glass canning jar, and eliminate the toxic plastic insert. I was looking for one to get for a friend when I discovered this most outrageous and unbelievably avaricious new price. In 2004, I purchased this identical yogurt maker for $15. What happened, is Salton now claiming it's made of platinum? This insane greed is a perfect example of why our economy is tanking fast...

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but needs glass jar   August 22, 2010

I wanted a one-quart yogurt maker, but couldn't find one with a glass jar. I finally bought this in April 2009, and immediately swapped the plastic insert for a glass jar. Finding the right size and shape jar isn't easy, but Costco often sells sun-dried tomatoes in a glass jar that is ideal. It fits inside the Salton yogurt maker. I've bought 3 (fortunately, we love sun-dried tomatoes), emptied them of tomatoes, sterilized the jars, and rotate them for making yogurt. Having done that, I'm very happy with the yogurt maker as we got it at a fairly sensible price of about $24, which I believe is the most anyone should pay for this simple device. 5 out of 5 stars Salton YM9 Price   July 25, 2010

The prices on these used models are high because, unfortunately, Salton no longer makes the YM9.

5 out of 5 stars Great, but why so expensive?   July 21, 2010

This is a great item and we use it constantly. But why is it $150-$200 when we paid $25 for it less than a year ago from either Amazon or Salton. Someone is getting ripped off. It is a piece of plastic with a warmer....search online for a better price.

4 out of 5 stars great item. why so expensive?   June 24, 2010

When I purchased my Salton yogurt maker several years ago, the price was no more than $40.00. I am curious as to what catapulted the price into the over $150.00 dollar range. While I admit that it works very well, and I can use a wide mouth glass mason jar to make yogurt in, if I had to buy one at the present price, I doubt that I could justify the price.
