Waffle Iron is a Winner February 25, 2010 M. Hill (Colorado) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After two years of monthly use I continue to be more than pleased with this reasonably priced waffle iron. I look at the high-end irons and love their appearance, but this solid little appliance works so well I simply can't justify replacing it with anything else. The waffles cook evenly and are crispy, every time.
And, I have never experienced a problem with the batter sticking. Follow the instructions for the first use of the iron and then there is no need to apply oil or butter ever again. I never oil or butter the iron, ever, and nothing sticks. The combination of the non-stick surface and the oil or butter contained in the recipes, In my experience, makes the additional application unnecessary.
To avoid batter seeping out the sides, I usually pour just a little bit behind the center of the iron because when closed, the lid seems to distribute the batter more forward than backward. This small adjustment results in a perfect round waffle. I use the measurement recommended in the enclosed recipe book - which as I recall is a bit less than 1/3 cup.
Some of the recipes included in the booklet have become family favorites. A particularly delicious one is the Whole Wheat Belgian Waffle recipe. The batter is started the evening before. Its special ingredient is a packet of dry yeast. The ingredients are mixed in a bowl and then placed in the refrigerator over-night. I usually make it right after dinner and then the next day's breakfast is all but prepared. In the morning the batter is light and foamy -- ready to start making waffles. This is one of the most flavorful waffle recipes I've ever had -- whole grain, yet light - with a delicious, yeasty flavor. They are very little work and the result is amazing. I usually serve with maple syrup and blueberries.
This iron is a little workhorse. Avoid using metal utensils on the non-stick surface, and the iron will last for many years. I use a microfiber cloth on the shiny chrome finish and after two years, mine still looks brand new on the outside and works perfectly, waffle after waffle.
Excellent Waffle Maker February 1, 2010 Paula Jay 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent Waffle Maker. I could not be more satisfied with this product.
This is the first waffle maker I ever bought, and it worked beautiful the first time I used it, and the waffles came out delicious. If other people are having trouble with it, its because their doing something wrong. Either the recipe their using is not the right consistency, or not using a lubricant on it. I used butter to lubricate mine and the waffles came out delicious. I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to others. For the price you can't go wrong.
Great product! December 25, 2009 Lori J. Hernandez (Grand Rapids, MI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recieved this as a gift and considered returning it for a different model, but after reading the reviews on Amazon, I decided to keep it. This morning I used it for the first time and was very pleased. My former waffle maker was an ancient model from the 70's that burned everything, needed to sprayed with oil within an inch of it's life EVERY time to keep the batter from sticking and seemed to me to be a major fire hazard. Now I can throw that one away!
I did like everyone on the reviews recommended - I plugged it in before I started my batter and turned it up to MAX. The first time, I overfilled it, but I caught on quickly. The waffles were crispy and delicious in about 5 minutes. And the best part - I didn't need to spray it with oil!!! I'm very happy with this product. True, it does not brown the waffles evenly, but you can just flip the waffle over half way through if it bothers you.
Affordable, Easy to Use, Non-Belgian Style Waffle Maker December 20, 2009 Robert Bogetti (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've used this Oster waffle maker for over a year without any problems. It heats up relatively fast with a quick recovery time. I use a boxed generic pancake mix and follow the waffle instructions - same as for pancakes just add 1/3 cup oil to prevent sticking. All I do is plug it in to preheat, mix my batter, when the green light turns on, I spray lightly with cooking spray (I only spray for the first waffle) and add my batter being careful not to overfill and wait until the green light comes back on. The highest heat setting makes them a little too dark for me so I back it off a little. Also as you are cooking a large batch of waffles, the iron will retain more heat and you may need to back off on the darkness control just a little bit. I place the already baked waffles in a toaster oven around 250 degrees to keep warm while the rest of the batch is being prepared. Clean up is easy with a paper towel when cool. If any batter spilled over when cooking I just use a soft bristled brush to remove the dried batter. NOTE: This is called a Belgian waffle maker but the depth is that of a non-Belgian style waffle. The heating element is 850 watts. For the Oster flip true Belgian waffle maker look for Oster model #3874.
Can't Complain December 12, 2009 TheLivinLegend (Los Angeles) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Grabbed this model onsale from Target [...]. [...]. Can't complain at all for [...] bucks. Makes nice fluffy waffles. Used a Alton Brown waffle recipe. The bigest thing is getting used to the amount of batter to use, but that comes with using and practice. Again can not complain. Happy with this waffle maker. I was going to buy the Villa Ware Waffle Maker 2002 model, but is it no longer available. This waffle maker made me more than happy and the price was right.
