All kitchen and sporting knives, whether professional quality or inexpensive, need a blade tune-up now and then. This electric sharpener produces razor-sharp edges using the same rapidly rotating Sapphirite grinding wheels used by professional shops. A two-stage system allows knives to be ground and sharpened on the Stage 1 half of the machine, and then honed on the Stage 2 half. Blade guides hold the knife at the ideal sharpening angle for each side of the blade, as it is drawn slowly towards the user and kept parallel to the countertop. The sharpener is suitable for knives made of alloy, carbon, or stainless steel; it is perfectly normal for sparks to fly when knives of high carbon steel come in contact with the Sapphirite wheels. Non-electric serrated knives that are only serrated on one side can also be sharpened with this machine. Three suction cups on the bottom hold the sharpener securely on a table or countertop, and two receptacles underneath catch metal filings for disposal. The sharpener measures 8-1/4 by 5-3/4 by 4 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Our Knives were very dull and we had tried to sharpen them manually to no avail.
It took running them through about 6 times on each side for our dullest knives but it worked beautifully.
Although it says nothing about scissors, I had a dull pair and nothing to lose so I tried (just had to figure out which side of the sharpener to use) and it even worked on them.
This is a great product.

I decided to give the Presto 08800 Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener a try. I have always used oil stones, but after trying this on an old knife first, I was surprised how sharp it was. I now use it for all my knifes.
Easy for first time sharpener March 10, 2010

I never owned a knife sharpener before and was wary of anything which would require me to hold the blade at a specific angle. This sharpener had angled slots to control how the blade hit the wheel. It was extremely easy to use and very quickly sharpened the blade on my 8-inch chef's knife.

We sharpen our Henckles regularly and received this knife sharpener as a gift. Tried it the first time and have used it ever since. I sharpen all the knives at once then my husband puts the fine edge on them with a steel. You only have to run the knife once or twice over the steel and watch out. Bought one as a gift because we liked our's so much.

I HAVE LOOKED AT AND TRIED SEVERAL KNIFE SHARPENERS. SO WHY NOT ONE MORE?? WHEN THE SHARPENER ARRIVED I WAS SUPRISED AT ITS WEIGHT...GOOD! I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AS ADVISED AND THEN I RETREIVED THE OLD CHEAP KNIFE THAT I LOVE. I SHARPENED & HONED IT AND THEN TRIED IT OUT ON A RANDOM POTATO...WOW IS THIS A NEW KNIFE??? THEN I CUT "THE TOMATO", A TRUE TEST, MY CHEAP KNIEF SLICED RIGHT THROUGH THE TOUGH SKIN. I USED MY BELOVED KNIFE THIS MORNING (3 WEEKS LATER) IT IS STILL SHARP! I HAVE NOW SENT ONE TO MY DAUGHTER AND BROTHER IN LAW. THE ONLY NEGATIVE THAT WE AGREE ON IS THAT IT IS LOUD WHEN YOU FIRE IT UP BUT WITH THE RESULTS WE HAVE SEEN HOW OFTEN IS THAT GOING TO BE? ALSO DON'T PUSH DOWN TOO HARD WHEN YOU ARE SHARPENING OR THE MOTOR WILL DRAG. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.
