 GE bags, really? August 3, 2010

Six years ago, when we purchased our GE Monogram compactor, it came with bags. They were very thick, the bottoms were pleated for perfect fit and they had holes for the "buttons" on the sides to keep the bags from sliding when compacting. For a couple of years, we could purchase similar bags from GE, but they were pretty costly for such an item. What has happened, GE? Thinner bags, flat, with no holes. It was a lot of work to make the bag fit--well, almost fit. Half the price, I have to admit, but then, you get what you pay for. I am tempted to order directly from GE and see if there is a difference. I am wondering if GE provides these bags of poorer quality so they can be sold cheaper. (I used amazon, because it was easy. The bags came quickly, no complaint there.)

I got the order quickly. The bags are strong and fit easily to the trash compactor. The universal GE bag is great. You get quality and price.

I recently rented a condo that was equipped with an old GE Compactall trash compactor Model GCG950. I looked all over to find any information regarding what bags to purchase for this model -- including on the GE site. Since it is as old as it is, however, I was unable to find any information. After reading reviews on Amazon, I decided to try these bags. They do, indeed, fit the compactor and they are strong enough to hold 30+ lbs of compacted trash. I have had no trouble at all with tearing. I estimate that they will last me 9-10 months and, as such, believe them to be reasonably priced.

The price of the GE refills for our Monogram Compactor is almost offensive. The cost of the unit alone was hard to swallow, I refuse to allow GE to soak me for the price of their bags. These aren't the best bags out there, they tend to sag and fall in when they get near the full mark. But, I've never had one break, they're tough, the fit "okay" and the price is a whole lot better!
