 Good mixer, but paid too much. Not made in UK as I thought. June 24, 2010

I like the mixer so far (only had it for about 4 weeks). It has good power. I was willing to pay the amount for this mixer because I thought it was made in the UK, not China. However, when I received the mixer it was printed on the box "made in China". Only time will tell - if the mixer holds up, I'll be happy - but all mixers that I've gone through in the past few years have all been made in China and have failed after as short as 6 weeks and none longer than 12 months. I'll be very unhappy if that happens with this mixer after paying the premium price.

I don't have space on my counters for a stand mixer but make lots of breads and things that require whipping ( souffles meringues mousse etc.) so I am very happy with the Dualit 88520 and have recommended it to many friends. It comes with a whisk, a pair of dough hooks and a pair of standard beaters. It has a powerful motor for its small size and light weight and the wind in cord makes it easy to store. I have open shelving in a stainless kitchen so I also appreciate its good looks. The whisk is an amazing invention--fast and fluffy with egg whites and cream. The lo speed isn't lo enough for mixing dry ingredients and the dough hooks work better with fairly moist doughs but for the price and quality, it is hard to beat for someonne like me who has no room for a stand mixer.

I spent weeks researching hand mixers comparing speed and country of origin. Several reviews I read elsewhere on the web raved that this item was made in Great Britain. WRONG - Made in China!
On the first use, the cord would not retract. The chemical smell was overpowering as the mixer ran. So overpowering that I became lightheaded and ill. Yes, I am chemically sensitive but the smell still lingers in the house.
The "chrome finish" is plastic. It's all plastic except for the beaters.
VERY DISAPPOINTED and especially at the price. I expected more, much more for the price than what I got.

Overall i am pleased with the mixer - it's powerful and looks good. But what really upsets me is it retractable cord - it gets stuck every time i am pulling it out, it is such a headache that i prefer not to deal with this feature. The other thing i wish was there - the 1st speed is too fast, i with it has a lower speed.

I had a Cuisinart hand mixer which fell apart and was not powerful enough for some jobs. This Dualit Hand Mixer has power for anything, and is much better built than any mixer I have seen. The retractible cord works just fine, & I even like the box it came in...very substantial storage box that will last for years or decades.
This is a product I can recommend with highest confidence!
