Great Idea - implementation lacking July 16, 2010 Walter J. Sanders (DC suburbs) I've had this unit for about 1.5 years.
Pro's:
- I like it better than anything else out there because of its size.
- Temp is pretty even across the plate.
- Non stick surface has held up well.
Things Breville needs to re-think.
- When you open the grill if you're cooking bacon (any thing greasy) the top lid will drip juice on the back of the unit and on your table.
- The grease catch fits too loose, if its not pushed in all the way and if you're not careful that the sides are aligned with grill guides, run off will miss the grease catch and go straight to the table or floor.
Opry Mom March 3, 2010 Opry Mom (New York, New York) After reading the reviews on this Breville grill I was not sure that I made the correct choice. We love it! I just purchased the smart convection oven and that was a great decision too. In one month we have had more chops, grilled veggies and sandwiches that are made in a fraction of the time it used to take. I immediately wipe the grill with paper towels before I begin a new item. Love It! I would appreciate a few more "recipes" or ideas on how to cook different foods to get optimal use of my machine.
Breville Indoor BBQ February 8, 2010 Richard Richter (Houston, TX) Breville really does make some good stuff but I am mixed on this one. I like it but it is a little bulkier than expected. If that I not an issue, this works pretty well for getting things cooked right from freezer to plate. I have done the basic steaks, chicken, burgers, and eggs with this. In my opinion, I would always choose to go outside and cook on the outdoor grill but this unit is fine if your staying out of the rain. It is probably best used for bacon and egg type meals of a grilled cheese sandwich. The newer one has upgraded controls (digital) which is probably a nice touch. Mine has its place and works fine. Just be sure you have a place to store it or get the smaller one.
non stick surface bubling after a few months January 23, 2010 hung95 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We boought it a few months ago. It gives us steaks of the same quality as if you go to a steak house.Unfortunately, after a few montths, around 20 uses, the non stick surface started to get coarse / rough at a few places. We thought it was food / fat left over. But the surface gets more and more damaged after a few more uses. At that price and with the qualty they advertised, it should last longer than a cheap brand
Solid January 21, 2010 Pats Fan (Boston, MA) This indoor grill has several positives and only one negative.
The appliance is sturdy and strong. It folds easily for storage and opens to a flat surface for cooking (it is a little heavy and bulky) . The grill is fantastic for making paninnis. However, it falls short of providing a true "grill" taste when cooking meats. Perhaps my expectations were too high. For this purpose it really is no different than cooking on a teflon pan.
Overall I'm pleased with the product
