Gives consistant results, Works great! February 15, 2010 Ronald Dufel (Bonita, CA United States) With my old Proctor Silex toaster, I never could toast bagels without burning them. If I turned it down, it would not be toasted at all. Very frustrating.
Anyway this toaster is working great. I have had it for a month and use it primarily for bagels, always pushing the "bagel" button. Setting 4 gives a light golden color. I just turned it to "5" to make it a little darker. "6" gives a dark color, but not burnt, a little too dark for my preference.
Another feature I like is the countdown display so you can see how much longer it will take and also the electronic beeper when done. It is not overly loud, but I can hear it in the other room.
The slots are bigger than my old toaster and look fine for anything I will be stuffing in it. I thought I'd used the "Lift & Look" feature alot, but since the bagels come out so consistant, I don't bother to peek at them anymore.
Nice, solidly built toaster February 12, 2010 Pamela D. (Tucson, AZ United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This toaster has a nice, old-fashioned solid feel to it, unlike our previous plastic toaster. I'm no perfect-toast fanatic, but it seems to do a reasonable although not perfect job of even browning, whether for one or two pieces. I appreciate the high-lift lever. No more digging around with utensils (as with old toaster -- unplugged, of course) for smaller pieces of toasted bread. Display is easy to read and controls are logical and simple.
My only complaint is the plug. The toaster sits 3-1/4 inches from the wall when plugged in because of it. Breville seems proud of this plug, and it's true that the plug design makes it easier to remove from the outlet. But I don't want to plug and unplug an appliance that is used almost daily.
Love it!! February 1, 2010 JM I threw out my old toaster thinking that it didn't work anymore. Turned out it was the outlet that was malfunctioning. Glad it happened though because I love my new toaster. It has a great modern look and operates wonderfully. I love the digital readout that lets you know when the time is almost done. I also like that the readout goes to "sleep" mode after you're done using the toaster, so you save some energy. I highly recommend this toaster.
Best toaster since the 1950s January 14, 2010 Michael P. Mckenna (Orlando) My wife received this toaster as a gift in 2007 and it has been an outstanding performer. We had tried several different brands since our inherited 1960's vintage Sunbeam gave up it's ghost and none could compare until we received this Breville. I would recommend this toaster to anyone who wants consistency in performance.
plug and unplug January 6, 2010 bartwin (Lafayette Hill, PA USA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
if you leave the toaster plugged in all the time, the led display is on all the time, which is a waste of energy for those of us who don't toast every day. also, as others have said, the plug is a nuisance in tight spaces because it sticks out so much. yes, it's easier to pull out that way, but it takes up too much space and if they had an on/off button one wouldn't have to keeping plugging and replugging. i am sending this back.
