Nice but did not last 2 years January 24, 2010 Boiler29 It was a nice toaster and I liked the lcd display but a little over a year the whole unit went poof. literally. I put two pieces of bread in, pushed down the handle, ten seconds later a loud snap and a poof of white smoke came out of it. Something shorted behind the LCD panel, so it fried the LCD and whatever logic board it had rendering the unit unusable. I kept it well maintained so it wasn't like there was a mountain of crumbs stuck in there that shorted out the heating elements.
I will probably go back to a unit that doesn't have a LCD and computer chips. The simple toasters seem to last a LOT longer.
Krups only offers 1 year warranty unfortunately.
Best looking toaster gadget December 10, 2009 Robert Leigh (Baltimore, MD USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I selected this Krups TT6190 because it looks cool and has the latest toaster gadgetry--specifically the digital control window. It fits well into my collection of kitchen small appliances which are stainless steel or chrome. Arnold bread does not fit into the slots, but it's not that hard to cut a piece of bread in half and use both slots. This toaster does not have a Reheat feature, which I liked on my KitchenAid toaster, but the defrost button and count-down timer let you custom reheat--manually. This Krups is also more quiet than my KitchenAid was, and the Krups toasts much more evenly on both sides. If the bread slot was just one-half inch wider, I would give the Krups a 5-star rating. Everything else about it is strictly 5-star.
Finally a proper defrost setting... October 31, 2009 SM (United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I received this toaster as a gift for my birthday two months ago and have been using it every day (often several times per day). For a decade I've been on a yeast-free gluten-free diet which means I have to make my own bread and freeze it. Long ago I had a toaster that would defrost the bread and then toast. It was a great machine until it died. Since then I have gone through quite a few toasters only to discover the 'defrost' is actually just prolonged toasting which basically means my toast comes out burnt, or burnt on the edges and undercooked in the center. The Krups finally gets it right. For the first time in years my toast comes out perfectly and there is the option to just heat the bread without toasting. It's brilliant! You can actually feel the warmth in the defrost cycle, but the elements do not come on until it's toasting time.
Other advantages are the simple setting via the digital backlit screen. It's lcd screen and stainless finish are quite stylish and modern. The timer counts down for you so you know exactly how long you've got to go. The slots are wide enough for bagels, hamburger buns and hot dog buns slid in at an angle (and for the bagel setting it only toasts the inner part of the bagel and not the outer if you prefer and that does work great for hot dog/hamburger buns too).
Some disadvantages (though they do not apply to my needs) are that the slots are not elongated. So, if you like rye bread or really long slices this toaster may not be adequate. Also, the cord is kind of short which may not be useful to some people. This is not an issue for me since the outlet is directly behind it.
Overall, this toaster is highly recommended for anyone who freezes bread and needs a proper defrost and general toasting of regular bread, bagels and buns.
Excelent toaster September 14, 2009 Stanislav Syursin (Saint Augustine, FL USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought it to use with viriety of gluten-free breads. The unit is great, toasts everything evenly. Defrost function works brilliant, slices come out toasted all the way through, no cold spots/burned edges. Countdown timer is a nice perk. Overall design is superb.
Excellent Product August 24, 2009 Elliot L. Fox (Louisville, KY) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Krups Toaster is certainly worth the money. There is no need to go shopping. I compared this product to all other brands found in stores, and this one has the best features and clean look. The countdown timer, crumb tray, defrost, bagel settings, are only a few of the reasons to purchase this toaster. The push-down knob is nice and firm: does not wiggle, does not slide down as if it were on a cheap spring. Browning settings from 1-9 adjusts perfectly.
