3 out of 5 stars Uncertain   February 6, 2010

The first two times we used the mill it worked great!! However, currently we have to take the top of to get the bottom bowl/drawer to slide into place. Since we have to pay for shipping, I am just dealing with it. It DOES grind wheat beautifully and quickly!! A bit loud, at least louder than we expected.

5 out of 5 stars Great machine, great customer service   January 6, 2010

I purchased my Nutrimill in 2006. I had a problem with it later that year where I'd turn on the switch and nothing would happen. I contacted Kitchen Resource and they had me send it in. It has been working perfectly ever since.

Yes, it's loud. Vacuum cleaner loud. Until everyone in the house develops a Pavlovian response, associating the mill with the scent and flavor of fresh warm whole wheat bread. Then it sounds like music.

I haven't had any problems with dust, except for that time I didn't insert the bowl all the way. Lesson learned. Make sure that bowl is pressed in firmly, until it snaps into place.

5 out of 5 stars A great grain mill   September 24, 2009

I had previously read reviews on this machine describing airplane level of loudness and spraying of flour all over the place, so I was a little hesitant to purchase it.

After careful research, however, I decided on this grain mill and have not regretted the decision yet. Yes, the machine is not quiet. It is the same level of sound as my vacuum cleaner or a blender. But, I can grind several pounds of wheat berries in about 10 minutes so the sound doesn't bother me!

As for flour being sprayed (other reviewers point this out too), but the machine has a YES NO feature on the bowl placement. If the bowl is at the NO spot, flour will spray. If the bowl is at the YES spot, flour will not. It's as simple as that.

I like the fact that several pieces are machine washable and they provide two black sponge pieces so while cleaning one you can still grind wheat.

I hadn't seen anyone comment on this before so I thought I'd point out that the machine is not heavy. I am not a tall person and I keep the grinder above my microwave. So, I am able to easily lift it down (without a chair) and have never dropped it or been afraid of the possibility. I know I wasn't thrilled with the possibility of having to keep it on my counter so it was good to realize that I can quickly and easily pull it down, use it, and put it back with ease.

5 out of 5 stars Kitchen Resource has EXECELENT customer service   September 10, 2009

I put this on the Le'Equip Nutrimill (same product) and I'll put it here as well...

I just got my grain mill less than an hour ago and upon opening it I discovered that a part was broken inside. I knew we had ordered the last one from Amazon since it now states ships in 2-3 weeks (and it said only one more in stock last week when it was ordered). I called up Kitchen Resource right away as I've been told by a friend who has a Nutrimill that they have good customer service. They do indeed. I told the rep what was broken and he said it sounded like a manufacturer issue and clearly nothing I did wrong in using the mill. He took my name, address, and number and told me that a new milling portion was on the way and to simply take the broken portion to a UPS drop off location. He also told me that I could still use it since the broken part didn't impair the function of the mill.

3 cups of wheat berries and about 20 minutes later I have almost 5 cups of flour and a clean ready to use again grain mill. It's a little loud. A bit louder than my vacuum cleaner, although I don't put my vacuum on the counter and hover a few inches away from the motor, so it may very well be comparable in noise level. The flour came out wonderfully. I may even say that if you read the directions it's pretty well foolproof. No more store bought flour for me! :D

I will also add that I had no issue with any mess, and the cleanup was very quick and easy.

5 out of 5 stars Going with the Grain   August 19, 2009

If you enjoy going to the airport and listening to the jet engines spool up, you're going to love this mill. But, while it can be a little loud, it isn't unbearable, and I doubt that there is any compact powered grain mill that operates quietly.

When I purchased this mill I had looked into all of the competition, and the only other one I came close to buying was a lot more expensive. However, I was concerned by the fact that this unit isn't very "user serviceable". Still, after three years of use, I haven't had a problem. I am careful about what I mill, so that may be a factor.

Milling popcorn, by the way, makes your kitchen smell exactly like a feed mill. This is what your pet's dry food smells like right before it becomes pet food. All you are lacking is a pellet mill and some tankage.

I sometimes think I'd like to have a more traditional mill design to complement this one. However, if you are interested in milling flour for your everyday baking needs, this unit is hard to beat for speed, convenience, and straightforward operation.
