The heating part is made by aluminum. After the first use you may find the bottom turn black. That is a iron layer coming from the water. If you boil some orange juice then the layer will disappear.. Aluminum is not good for your health though.

There is no auto shut-off feature and you cannot lift it up without unplugging it from the wall. Seems kind of small and old-fashioned.

much more durable, and much bigger capacity than Rival's hot pot express. glad I have replaced Rival's hot pot express with this one! I have used this one daily for over 2 years, and it is still working fine. Rival's hot pot express will break down within 3 months.
