Does its job, good cost performance September 2, 2010 Lily (Oregon, USA) Given the price, it is good! I have been using it for over a year, and it is functioning well! Only the heating metal is rusted, but it doesn't really matter, our body needs iron anyways.
Great Price, some shortcomings September 2, 2010 Omayra Ortega (phoenix, az, usa, erf) This is a great little kettle. I use it in my office to make tea throughout the day. It heats up very quickly, even when completely full it only takes about a minute to reach boiling. I did not notice a plastic taste and generally I am sensitive to these things. I have owned my kettle for almost a year now and its still going strong. Although, I live in Phoenix, AZ so it only gets heavy use during the winter time. It's small enough to store, out of the way, in my filing cabinet.
My only gripe (and it's a big one) is the ridiculously short cord!!! It's only about a foot and a half long, which is ridiculous if you use the kettle anywhere other than your kitchen counter top. I use the kettle on my desk and all of my outlets are on the floor or at floor height. I had to buy an extension cord specifically for this little guy, but at only $15, I guess you get what you pay for.
All in all a good, effective, inexpensive product.
Awesome for the Price August 9, 2010 Brittany Cable (CT United States) I bought this electric kettle in late 2007 when I got sick of the weird taste water gets from being microwaved for tea. While my college does have a hot water spout on the sink, I didn't like the taste of it and didn't feel like walking down the hall just to have a cup of tea. I bought this because it was cheap, and I figured it would last maybe two weeks.
Now, I'm very rough with objects; I tend to trip over them, accidentally knock them over, the works. However, three years later, this kettle still works just as well as it did when I first bought it. The only thing that has changed is that the electric cord isn't quite as good a fit into the kettle as it used to be, and takes a bit of fiddling to finally get it in right so the kettle will turn on.
As a tea drinker I have not noticed any "plastic" taste; there is an odd taste in the water but I think it may just be due to my college's water and not due to the tea kettle.
The kettle heats up water very quickly, and it is nice and hot. The lid is a little awkward to open but I have not had major issues with it. The electric cord is a bit short, which means in my dorm I had to heat up water on the floor, but otherwise it wasn't a big issue.
My only problem with it is that if you have the lid even slightly open when you turn it on, it will boil the water to eternity instead of automatically shutting off. I have to make sure the lid is tightly shut. Also, the water is directly in contact with the heating element, and if I don't rinse it thoroughly then white mineral (calcium perhaps?) builds up on the heating element. Gross.
Overall I am extremely happy with this product. It has severed me well in boiling water for tea, ramen, oatmeal and other college food staples, and after three years it still works just as well as it did when I first bought it.
good quality for the price July 18, 2010 bookworm Pro's: Cost, sturdy, seems to shut on and off well. It's a great size for a single user.
Con's: Probably won't last more than 2 or 3 years. Not big enough capacity for a family. Does not have a quick remove base.
Nice Water Kettle July 10, 2010 Max I use this a couple of times per week and I believe this works great. No issues!
