5 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to our counter   December 22, 2009

This is our third DeLonghi toaster in our 13 years of marriage. This time, we decided to try the slice toaster rather than a toaster-oven. We're delighted by this one! We like the independence of the left and right side, which is helpful when our family is having breakfast. The cancel button is a key feature to avoid burning things. The extra lift is helpful to empty contents. The easy-to-remove pull-out trays make clean-up quick and effortless. The sleek stainless steel matches our other kitchen appliances.

We're liking the slice toaster better than the toaster-oven because it really toasts better and more evenly. It automatically centers food between the burners, rather than being wherever your tray happens to be in the toaster-oven. Plus, the kids enjoy the "pop" at the end. After years of using these slice toasters at hotels and buffets, we are enjoying having one at home for breakfast everyday! We use our microwave and ovens for heating up food anyway.

So far, we have not experienced any drawbacks.

Considering the low price on Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond and elsewhere, this is a value that cannot be beat!!

1 out of 5 stars Lasted 16 Days   December 21, 2009

Once again, the search for fire continues. Sixteen (16) days after buying this DeLonghi CTH4003 "Esclusivo" 4-slice toaster, the right set of slots failed to lock down and turn on. While it worked, it was an excellent toaster: fast, good-looking, even toasting, feature packed. But, after 16 days, it's dead and going back. In the last 8 years we've gone through (at least) 6 toasters:

12/03/01: Villaware 5850 Uno Classic 4-Slice Toaster. It lasted about a week. Then, the left set of slots failed to lock down and turn on.

???: There must have been at least one toaster in this gap. I can't find any records of it, though.

05/01/04: Some GE toaster we bought locally. Didn't break (lasted almost two years), but was starting to take a long time to toast.

11/21/04: Another Villaware 5850 (bought mistakenly). Same problem as the previous Villaware: left set of slots failed to lock down and turn on after about 1 week.

03/27/06: Dualit 4-Slice Toaster. The catch on the slots was starting to fail (i.e., they failed to lock down and turn on, occasionally -- but, it lasted over 3 years).

12/05/09: This DeLonghi CTH4003 Pro-Metal 4-Slice Toaster. After 16 days, the right set of slots failed to lock down and turn on.

As I noted in my Villaware toaster review, my mother's had a toaster that's worked for decades. Yet, we can't find one that lasts more than a couple of years. How hard can it be to make a reliable toaster? Because of the failure, I rate this one at a Bad 1 star out of 5.

3 out of 5 stars great features   October 21, 2009
Elizabeth Karan (Oakland, CA , USA)
This toaster was a replacement for one from much simpler times that finally gave up. I am very happy with the features (haven't tried the bagel feature yet). Its rather big and bulky, takes up a bit more space than our old one. Toasting is sometimes uneven and one time a slice of bread, not exceptionally thin, got stuck below the part that should hold it up... what a mess... but it generally does its job, just not as well as I expected from DeLonghi

4 out of 5 stars DeLonghi 4 slice toaster   October 20, 2009
B. Davis (Sacramento, CA, USA)
This is a fabulous product that looks great, works well, and should last a long time. It seems to be well-built, although we have only had it a month or so. I only give it 4 stars because I find that well toasted bread takes 2 toasting cycles to complete. Have not tried the bagel feature.

3 out of 5 stars Defective Unit   June 23, 2009
Margaret A. Hull (Fredonia, KS USA)
I read nothing but good reviews on this toaster and decided to purchase one when my old one quit. I really liked the appearance and settings of this unit plus the easy access crumb trays. I was VERY disappointed to receive one that did not work due to damaged heating elements.
