 Fantastic coffee maker August 24, 2010

We purchased this product on Thursday evening and it arrived on Saturday (yeah, we over-nighted it). First and foremost -- this makes the best cup of coffee my family has ever had. My husband, my mother, and I have been raving about this coffee maker for the past couple of days. If you prefer your coffee to taste like ash, then the flavor of the coffee probably isn't that important to you. However, we buy Kona coffee specifically for the hints of chocolate and this coffee maker really enhances all of the notes in the coffee. We were skeptical because we enjoyed our coffee and doubt that it could have been improved. But we stand corrected.
However, during the initial run, the coffee carafe broke. The instructions ask that you run it on a water cycle twice before use. Our water cycle used the entire 14-cup carafe. When we picked up the carafe to dump the water, the handle buckled under the weight and cracked the glass. We're not sure if this is a design flaw or if the glass was poor quality. My husband wrote to the company and, free-of-charge, they are replacing the carafe. Their customer service was quick and readily provided us with an agreeable resolution.
The rest of the product seems EXTREMELY sturdy. However, after reading the customer reviews regarding this product's lifespan, I purchased the extended warranty.
I would definitely purchase this product again -- and wish I hadn't waited so long to upgrade the coffee maker. This is well-worth the price.
Great machine...that died after two years August 15, 2010

I don't expect electrical appliances to last forever. But a $50 coffeepot? I expected to get at least 4-5 years out of it. No such luck: after 2 years of use (brewing about 4-5 pots a week), the heating element died.
While it worked, it was a great coffee pot that never scalded my coffee and treated it with the respect java deserves, which is why it extracted even 3 stars from me.
RIP Delonghi. Hello, mechanical / pour-type coffee mater!
 Good Coffee, Poor Reliability August 3, 2010

We wanted to find a coffeemaker that made excellent coffee. Our internet research led us to the DeLonghi DC514T 14 cup coffeemaker. Reviews were correct, this machine makes a very good cup of coffee... HOWEVER, I made the mistake of not checking product reliability because after 5 months this machine started leaking water all over the counter. I would have known this if I had checked reliability. If you are reading this then you have covered all bases and probably will not buy this product. "MY loss is your gain". I sent a comment to DeLonghi today, not sure if they will make good on this defective machine.

For the year that the DeLonghi DC514T 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker worked, we loved it. It made good coffee and was a good design in terms of miscellaneous performance issues: easy to fill and to see the fill lines; did not leave a mess on the countertop; even told us when it was time to de-lime.
Alas, all these good feelings disappeared when the machine died just 14 months after we got it--2 months after the warranty ran out. The pump apparently stopped working. The lights come on, but the water does not move. So, let's see. $70--the "sale" price at Amazon--divided by 420 (approximate days we used it) means that we are paying about 17 cents a day for the coffee maker. Cheaper than the coffee, but it seems as though a machine like this should last at least 2-3 years.

I purchased the DeLonghi 14 cup for a group at work. We make one pot of coffee a day. It was great for two months, excellent coffee. Everyone was happy. After two months the heating element died - back to the good old Mr. Coffee for us. It was a great coffee maker for almost two months - a little pricy for two months, but good coffee.
